Inspiring Girls Through Cooking with Chef Shaquera Johnson

This Women’s History Month, Girls Inc. of Greater Atlanta celebrated the power and contributions of women through a hands-on culinary experience at our Marietta Center. The girls were joined by the incredibly talented and inspiring Chef Shaquera Johnson, a professional chef known not only for her delicious recipes but also for her passion for mentoring and supporting young women.

The kitchen was buzzing with excitement as Chef Shaquera led the girls through an interactive cooking lesson. Together, they prepared a delicious meal of creamy Chicken Alfredo, crisp salad, and warm homemade garlic bread. More than just following recipes, the girls learned foundational cooking skills, kitchen safety, and the art of working as a team..

As the dishes came together, Chef Shaquera shared her journey as a woman in the culinary industry, a field often dominated by men. She talked about the challenges she faced, how she found her voice, and the importance of believing in your abilities—in the kitchen and beyond. Her message of confidence, creativity, and resilience resonated with the girls as they asked thoughtful questions and engaged in meaningful conversations.

This cooking lesson became much more than a meal prep session. It was an enriching experience where the girls practiced patience, problem-solving, and collaboration. From measuring ingredients to overcoming small kitchen mishaps, they discovered that cooking is a powerful form of self-expression and growth.

By the end of the day, the girls proudly enjoyed the meal they had created and left with more than just full stomachs. They walked away inspired by Chef Shaquera’s story and reminded that women can thrive in any space they choose—whether it’s a kitchen, classroom, or boardroom. Events like these not only teach practical life skills but also reinforce our mission to equip girls with the tools, confidence, and inspiration to pursue their dreams and break barriers. Thank you, Chef Shaquera, for nourishing our girls with both knowledge and encouragement!

We look forward to more opportunities to engage, educate, and celebrate together!
